The Space Between at Babyboomerage.com

Babyboomerage.com, while currently under construction, currently houses my blog, The Space Between.

In year one of this blog I wrote about my insights, sometimes amusing, sometimes head-scratching, as a new retiree – how I spent my time, letting go of my intense work life and adventures – in some cases, misadventures. Over the first 12 months, my readers grew from my friends and family to over 1200 active readers. Thank you all for your support in helping me get a voice in the crowd.

Now that we begin the second year,I intend to continue writing about things connected to my generation and retirement, but also focus on some interesting facts about the times our families once lived in – particularly our ancestors in America – sanitation, healthcare, education, clothing, disruptive inventions and so forth. Why this stuff?

At the end of the summer, 2019, I embarked on a big project, a historical novel about my great grandmother Mathilda. Although I know practical nothing about her actual life, I am fascinated by the life she could have had. She likely carried the terrible cancer defect (BRCA1) that was passed down through our family and through her ancestors. When I began research her for my memoir ten years back (Almost a Princess, my Life as a Two-Time Cancer Survivor by Jane Loeb Rubin) I had to dig hard to find her first name. I have yet to find her last – I’m even combing through passenger records from ships leaving Hamburg to NYC in 1886.

Please enjoy following along with me as I weave her tale and the people who could have (at least in my imagination) been impacted by her life
